Purpose of the Position
Minimum Requirements
• Trade Test Certificate: Diesel Mechanic (or equivalent recognised technical qualification).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Yellow Plant, fleet maintenance, including mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• At least 3-5 years’ experience in a workshop, breakdowns and general maintenance environment.
• Valid Driver’s License (minimum Code 10 and ability to test machines).

Core Responsibilities
• Manage and oversee day-to-day workshop operations, including job card management, prioritisation of tasks and quality assurance.
• Ensure timely preventative maintenance and repairs of fleet to reduce downtime and maintain service schedules.
• Conduct technical fault-finding and diagnostics, particularly for escalated or complex issues.
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of vehicle repair requirements as reported by the call centre agents for all Njilo Yellow Plant and other vehicles contracted in Lohatla & Northern Cape region. Ensures technical root cause analysis, financially viable assessments and repair recommendations, conducts daily technical inspections and formulates technical reports. This includes recording of hours and kilometers in preparation for scheduling of services and preventative maintenance. Ensuring the delivery of high-quality service, call centre repair requests, handling customer inquiries and ensuring the efficient management of fleet-related issues. The mechanic is also responsible for meeting performance such as diagnosis, assessments, quoting and repairs, reporting and completion of all work tasks within agreed time frames. Workshop job planning, task allocation, completion and reporting using Job Cards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules.
• Manage parts ordering, supplier engagement and stock control for workshop tools and consumables.
• Ensure safety compliance across the workshop, including adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act standards and internal policies.
Supervise in-house technicians / assistants, including:
• Allocation of daily tasks and monitoring productivity
• Ensuring adherence to service quality standards
• Conducting on-site training, coaching and mentoring
• Monitoring attendance, performance and discipline in coordination with HR
• Evaluating technician competency and identifying development needs
• Facilitate internal reporting and communication between the workshop and operational departments.
• Provide technical support on-site as needed for emergency breakdowns or client escalations.
• Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new technical staff when required.
