Purpose of the Position

Njilo is a leading logistics and consulting company delivering innovative solutions to clients. We prioritize compliance, risk management, and operational excellence, and we are looking for a skilled Paralegal to strengthen our legal team

Minimum Requirements

 

  • LLB Degree
  • Drivers Licence
  • Minimum 2 years’ proven experience in commercial law, contract review, and legal risk reporting.
  • Minimum 1 year law firm experience specializing in commercial litigation.
  • Strong understanding of corporate compliance, regulatory frameworks, and governance.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Professional accuracy in contract and legal reviews, effectiveness in identifying legal and compliance risks and communication skills for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

  1. Contract Review and Legal Risk Assessment

The Paralegal will review commercial agreements related to the company’s logistics and consulting operations.

Responsibilities include reviewing:

 

  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Logistics and transport agreements, Consulting agreements, Subcontractor agreements, Supplier agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Joint Venture agreements, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)

 

 

  1. Compliance and Regulatory Review

The Paralegal will assist in ensuring that company documentation complies with relevant legislative frameworks.

Responsibilities include reviewing compliance with:

  • Companies Act, B-BBEE legislation, POPIA, Public procurement regulations, corporate governance requirements
  1. Legal Risk Reporting

The incumbent will provide management with structured feedback on legal risks identified during the review process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing legal risk assessment reports on contracts and tenders, providing written comments and recommendations on legal documents, escalating high-risk provisions to the Legal Manager, maintaining records of reviewed contracts and legal opinions provided.
  1. File Management and legal Records Responsibilities include:
    • Maintaining complete, accurate and orderly physical and electronic legal files for each matter; maintaining the legal matter register, filing all correspondence, pleadings, contracts, legal opinions, instructions, invoices; monitoring limitation, prescription, court and internal deadlines; ensuring version control, document traceability, secure access and the confidentiality of privileged, personal, legal and commercially sensitive information; and making approved records readily accessible to authorised personnel.
  2. External Attorney Liaison

The Paralegal will support the Legal Manager in coordinating all matters referred to external attorneys and other legal service providers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and issuing approved instructions and complete briefing packs to external attorneys; maintaining a register of all externally managed matters; coordinating the exchange of correspondence, promptly escalating delays, excessive or unauthorised costs, conflicts of interest and material litigation risks to the Legal Manager; and ensuring that no external attorney is appointed, instructed, settled with or paid without the required internal authority and approval.

Technical Skills

  • Legal research and interpretation of legislation and case law.
  • Legal drafting, proofreading and document preparation.
  • Electronic file, contract and case-management systems.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Preparation of pleadings, legal bundles and attorney instructions.
  • Monitoring litigation deadlines, prescription periods and legal costs.
