JOB TITLE : Field Service Technician
LOCATION : Umtata
DURATION : 36 Months -Fixed Term Contract

Purpose of the Position

The purpose of the Field Service Technician role is to provide on-site maintenance, diagnostics and repair services for vehicles and yellow plant, to ensure maximum equipment availability, operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. This role supports Njilo Consulting’s service delivery obligations to clients by minimising equipment downtime, maintaining service quality, and ensuring customer satisfaction across various operational sites.

Minimum Requirements
• Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent
• Qualified Diesel and/or Petrol Mechanic with experience in vehicles and yellow plant
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems pertaining to vehicles and yellow plant.
• Valid code 14 driver’s License (mandatory)

Core Responsibilities
• Minor Out-of-Warranty Repairs: Diagnose and fix mechanical issues on vehicles and plant equipment outside manufacturer warranty.
• Greasing & Lubrication: Perform routine greasing of yellow plant machinery to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Breakdown Response: Attend to on-site and roadside breakdowns swiftly and professionally.
• Fleet Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of the fleet to ensure compliance, safety, and maintenance standards.
• Replace worn or damaged tyres on vehicles and equipment.
• Attend to punctures and ensure proper repair or replacement.
• Ensure all repairs, servicing, and component replacements strictly adhere to OEM-recommended procedures and standards.
• Conduct accurate fault diagnosis and troubleshooting in the event of breakdowns; communicate repair requirements clearly to the customer and/or supervisor.
• Maintain accurate service records by updating vehicle maintenance logs and sharing critical information timeously.
• Implement and adhere to service and maintenance programs for all assigned equipment.
• Deliver excellent customer service through professional and respectful interaction.
• Adhere to the contract compliance in regard to repairs and maintenance
• Maintain clear communication with workshop teams, customers, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure all actions are following Njilo Consulting standards and client expectations.
• Promote workplace safety by checking safety devices, complying with procedures, and adhering to all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Willingness to work irregular hours as needed to support operational demands.
