JOB TITLE : Legal Advisor

Purpose of the Position
Njilo Consulting and Logistics is a fast-growing company specialising in fleet management, waste management, and yellow fleet hire. We are looking for a dynamic Legal Advisor to join our team and provide strategic legal support across all aspects of our operations. This role is key in ensuring our contracts, projects, and business practices are compliant, efficient, and aligned with our growth ambitions.

Minimum Requirements
• Degree: LLB or equivalent bachelor’s degree in law (essential).
• Experience: Minimum 5 years in legal practice or legal advisory role.
Advantageous:
Admission as an attorney.
Exposure to project-based companies, preferably within fleet management, transport, or logistics.
At least 2 years’ experience in project/contract management.

Core Responsibilities
1. Contract Management
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers, vendors, and partners.
• Ensure contracts align with the company’s objectives and risk management policies.
• Maintain an organised system for contract administration, including tracking key deadlines and renewals.

2. Regulatory Compliance
• Provide legal advice on compliance relating to fleet operations, transportation regulations, labour laws, safety, and environmental standards.
• Monitor changes in legislation affecting fleet management and recommend policy/procedure updates.
• Conduct compliance audits and assessments.

3. Dispute Resolution and Litigation
• Manage legal disputes, negotiations, and arbitration proceedings
• Draft and prepare legal documents, pleadings, and settlement agreements.
• Develop strategies for effective risk mitigation and dispute resolution.

4. Legal Advisory and Risk Management
• Provide expert legal advice to senior management and departments.
• Conduct legal risk assessments for projects, contracts, and new initiatives.
• Assist in the development of policies and procedures to align with legal requirements.

5. Corporate Governance
• Ensure compliance with corporate laws and governance requirements.
• Support preparation of board materials, compliance reports, and legal updates.
• Maintain accurate corporate records and statutory filings.

6. Training and Education
• Develop and deliver legal and compliance training for employees.
• Promote ethical business practices and a strong compliance culture.
• Serve as a go-to resource for legal questions across the organisation.

7. Stakeholder Engagement
• Partner with internal teams (finance, operations, HR) to resolve legal issues.
• Liaise with regulators, external counsel, and industry bodies.
• Build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships.

Knowledge Required
• South African corporate, commercial, and contract law.
• Fleet operations regulatory environment (transport, safety, labour, environmental).
• Corporate governance frameworks and compliance.
• Dispute resolution, arbitration, and litigation processes.
• Risk management principles and practices.

Skills Required
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex legal frameworks.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal & written).
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Strategic thinker with practical problem-solving skills.
• High ethical standards and ability to influence compliance culture.
•Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams.
