JOB TITLE : Waste Site Supervisor
LOCATION : Johannesburg
DURATION : 34 Months Fixed-Term Contract
Purpose of the Position
The main objective of this position is to supervise crews engaged in collecting and disposing of household waste. Providing the crew with their work assignments, keeping a register of the crew on a daily basis, providing information to employees, scheduling employee time off, and supervising the daily collection process. Work is performed with some degree of independence and may be required to fill in for drivers or other staff in emergencies or staff in emergencies or staff shortages.
Minimum Requirements
• Fleet Management, Transport or Logistics Management Diploma/Degree.
• Minimum 2 years’ work experience.
• OHSA requirements in the Waste Management industry.
• General knowledge of the geographical layout of the city including streets.
• Knowledge of large truck operation and maintenance.
• Ability to supervise personnel working in manual labor and equipment operations.
• Valid Code 14 and PDP driver’s license.
Core Responsibilities
• Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of solid waste workers and equipment operators; holds pre-shift briefings and assigns collection routes; calls in other personnel if needed; visually inspects equipment to ensure operational readiness; ensures refuse is collected.
• Maintains time sheets of employees and trucks; records leave, time worked, and absenteeism.
• Collects signed time sheets from the client every Monday and submits to the Contract Administrator before close of business.
• Submits invoice and its supporting documents to the client at the end of the month.
• Ensures personnel are trained and follow prescribed OHSA safety rules and regulations; prepares reports on operations, accidents, activities, and other reports as needed.
• Establishes necessary records such as inspection sheets and files consistently with divisional management.
• Inspects trucks to ensure they are in proper condition.
• Liaise with mechanics to ensure timely repairs, scheduled servicing, and preventive maintenance of waste collection vehicles.
• Implement and oversee an effective tyre management program to ensure safety, cost control, and optimal vehicle performance.
• Ensure all trucks are regularly washed and greased in accordance with operational and maintenance standards.
• Logs breakdown calls and coordinates with the mechanics to attend to breakdowns
• Responds to complaints from residential and commercial customers.
• Continuous project process improvement.
• Cultivating relationships with key project stakeholders.
• Ensure all the internal audit controls are adhered to on a daily basis.
• Collaborate with other project teams to identify mutual beneficial lessons to be learned.
• Monitor contract performance, compliance, and renewals, addressing any issues proactively.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure all contracts comply with environmental and safety regulations.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and legal requirements impacting waste and yellow plant management contracts.
• Prepare various reports of activities and keep Operations Manager informed of actions, personnel issues, and work activities
